Role
and Scope I was asked by the American Red Cross (ARC) to evaluate their macro and micro training methodology for technical courses — ATLAS. The instructional strategy I proposed covers all instructional activities, from the overall course process to the class, to the lesson. Background The American Red Cross delivers enterprise software training to over 850 national chapters embracing thousands of individuals and several systems. It is difficult to generalize with an audience analysis, and, staff resources are limited to address the many software systems and content changes. Training was developed quickly as the department responded to very demanding workloads. Goal/Challenge The client wished to make the current approach more effective and adaptive to the needs of users, as well as the rapidly changing enterprise applications. The key is to adapt to the high-volume environment and provide trainers with a methodology to develop and deliver effective courses and materials. Outcome The ATLAS software training managers at the ARC accepted my instructional strategy. Final approval was in May 2005 with implementation to occuring immediately afterward. |
